About the Choirs
Our Mission
The Green Bay Boy Choir and Girl Choir are music performance and education programs for boys and girls emphasizing the development of music skills and understanding. The Mission of the organization is to provide quality music instruction with the goal of attaining the highest level of artistic excellence in choral music performance. The Choirs endeavor to enrich the lives of children from all religious, racial, cultural and economic backgrounds. Through music activities and community involvement, the Choirs help to foster the personal and social growth of its members and promote their sense of self-esteem, accomplishment and pride.
Boy Choirs
Founded in 1980 by Audrey Olson, the Green Bay Boy Choir has grown to include boys in four levels of vocal experience and ability. All choirs are both training and performing units. The music program is based on progressive vocal music instruction and performance readiness. Choir members must be at least seven years old. Admission to the touring choir is by placement auditions. Auditions are held in the spring or by appointment. School music teacher recommendations are welcomed for ages 7-18. Classical music literature forms the foundation for choir instruction. Repertoire includes folk, ethnic, sacred and secular music.
- The Voyageur Choir is a training choir whose members sing unison music and receive basic music instruction and voice development.
- The Marquette Choir is an advanced training choir in which the boys continue to receive musical instruction and voice development and are introduced to two-part singing. A tour experience is also included.
- The Nicolet Choir is an auditioned choir whose members have demonstrated excellence in choral singing and exhibit personal maturity. In this choir the boys receive advanced musical and vocal instruction, such as three-part treble and four-part mixed. Touring is a requirement.
- The Joliet Choir is for members with changed voices. These young men perform music written for male ensemble as well as four-part mixed with the unchanged voice Nicolet Choir. Touring is a requirement.
Girl Choirs
The Girl Choir tradition began on May 11, 1996 when 180 girls became charter members. The choir has grown to include girls in four levels of vocal experience and ability. All choirs are both training and performing units. The music program is based on progressive vocal music instruction and performance readiness. Choir members must be at least seven years old. Admission to the touring choir is by placement auditions. Auditions are held in the spring or by appointment. School music teacher recommendations are welcomed for ages 7-18. Classical music literature forms the foundation for choir instruction. Repertoire includes folk, ethnic, sacred and secular music.
- The Preludio Choir is a training choir whose members sing unison, echo and partner songs. They receive basic music instruction and voice development.
- The Arietta Choir as an advanced training choir in which the girls continue to receive musical instruction and voice development and are introduced to two-part singing. A tour experience is included.
- The Licenza Choir is an advanced choir is which the girls begin to refine unison and two-part literature. They also begin exploring three-part music. Touring is a requirement.
- The Cantabile Choir is an auditioned choir made up of members who have demonstrated excellence in choral singing, exhibit personal maturity and a high level of personal commitment. The girls receive advanced musical instruction. They also receive more advanced vocal instruction that makes it possible for them to perform three and four part choral literature. Touring is a requirement.
- The Con Brio choir is an auditioned top level, high school aged choir whose members demonstrate the highest level of musical excellence and commitment to the organization. Touring is a requirement.
